Where did the real King Arthur come from? Where were his courts, the sites of his famous battles and, most importantly, where is the fabled Avalon?

All these questions and many more have been answered within the cover of the best-selling book 'The Keys to Avalon'. Hailed as the most in-depth and convincing work on the subject, it portrays the home of the Arthurian legacy as North East Wales and has generated a substantial amount of interest within the historical world.

Taking Dark Age Welsh poetry and the writings of contemporary Welsh monks as their source, authors Steve Blake and Scott Lloyd have identified the area attributed to Glastonbury as the beautiful Eglwysg Valley, near Llangollen. They also highlight Llangollen's Dinas Bran Castle, Ruabon Mountain and the wonderful River Dee as having strong links with Arthur, with their most spectacular finding being that of the true Avalon.

Situated high above the Dee estuary, on the spectacular Halkyn mountain, is a Bronze Age hillfort. Named after a Welsh Iron Age leader, Caer Afallwch (Afallwch's Fortress) commands superb views over the Borderlands and it isn't difficult to imagine the elusive Arthur looking out over the battlements to the hills beyond.

A visit to Llangollen and the North Wales Borderlands will be one of discovery as you trace the footsteps of Blake & Lloyd around the many sites of interest mentioned in their book, copies of which are available for sale to Oakmere residents.
